Background:Distal femur fractures has recently evolved towards indirect reduction and minimally invasive techniques and treatment. The goal is to strike a balance between the mechanical stability of the fragments and the biological viability. Pre-contoured Locking compression plates (LCPs) have shown to give best results in terms of recovery, fracture union, return to work and functional outcome.

Objective: To study the functional result of fracture distal femur treated by closed reduction with LCP by minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO).

Methods:In our study, 20 patients with closed distal femur fractures were evaluated. All cases were treated atOrthopaedic Surgery dept., Kushtia Medical College Hospital, Kushtia, Bangladesh from January 2020 to December 2020. Inclusion criteria: Patients with lower third femoral fracture aged 18 years and above.The patients were evaluated clinically and radiologically for functional outcomes. All patients were followed up for an average of 12 months. Outcome was assessed using NEER’s score.

Results:It was a prospective study. The study population comprised of 20 patients with mean age of 51.8 years ranging from 21 yrs to 68 yrs. All of them were closed injuries and fresh cases. The mean age was 51.8 years (21-68 yrs). 8 of my patients were male and 12 were female. 13 patients sustained RTA and 7 patients had accidental fall. 8 patients had right sided distal femur fracture and 12 had left sided injury. According to NEER’s score 50% had excellent results, 35% had good results and 15% had fair results. Gait and weight bearing after union was satisfactory. Range of motion of knee joint in majority of patients was within acceptable limits. Conclusions: Closed reduction and internal fixation of fracture lower end of femur by MIPO using LCP is one of the best modalities of treatment for good results.

This paper investigates teachers’ and sixth grade students’ perceptions on the impact of using mobile devices in teaching and learning mathematics. A focus group was conducted with convenience sampling of ten teachers and thirty students in an elementary school in Attica. The overall findings of this study show that the use of mobile devices has a positive impact on both teaching practices and learning in mathematics. In addition, the survey showed that there are two categories of teachers: the “innovative” and the “traditional” ones. Innovative teachers adapt their style of teaching according to the benefits that mobile devices can offer, while the traditional ones do not seem to be willing to use them. Finally, the results of the study show that the use of mobile devices in teaching has positive changes in the way students learn mathematics, as they offer interactive and exciting new environments.

The need for substantial use of ICT in the teaching and learning of mathematics during 2019 pandemic was the trigger for this research. This research was quantitative and investigated whether the use of the educational software designed by the National Institute of Greece, has a positive effect on the learning styles of fifth grade students (11 years old). The random sample was forty students and the Felder-Soloman model used to find the degree of involvement of each learning style in learning mathematics for each student. Two questionnaires were completed to assess learning styles, before and after the use of the software. The results showed improvement of the three learning styles, Logical, Active / Kinesthetic and Visual.

Learning is an active process where students apply what they have learned. The purpose of this study was to apply the STEM methodology for teaching power to sixth-grade students and to examine whether there has been an improvement in understanding the concept. For this reason, 48 sixth-grade students were divided randomly into two groups. Group A attended only the teacher's lectures, while group B attended the lectures and built a propellered vehicle. Group A took the test after the teacher finished the lectures and group B took the test of after completing the lectures and building the propellered vehicle. The results of the tests showed a better understanding of group B. Therefore, the results give evidence that the use of STEM methodology in teaching science can enhance students' understanding of various concepts of physics in primary school.

University professors all over the world are facing an increasing challenges to publish more and more high-quality papers, get funds, and improve their citation indices. In many scientific disciplines, like engineering and computer science, research topics keep changing and professors’ research agendas need to change as well. In this paper, we develop a mixed-integer linear program (MILP) to model a university professor problem of selecting research topics. The problem aims to increase the professor’s number of citations subject to time constraint and publication probability constraint. We also solve the suggested MILP using a max-min ant system. A case study for a professor in an industrial engineering department is also presented.
